About us

London River Yacht Club was founded 1950.

Our club house at the end of Queens Promenade was built  rapidly, in only three weeks, due mainly to the sterling efforts of some of the members.

The outside of the the rather plain brick building gives no indication of the most attractive interior.  A very modern bar and club room has large and wide windows opening out on to a small-railed balcony giving full view of the River Thames.

The same can be said of it today.  However, the attractive interior has been modernised with a recent refurbishment.

History to modern day

It was officially opened in 1952 by the Mayor and Mayoress who both attended a cocktail party, and became Honorary Members.

The "Galley Slaves" wives of committee and officers of the club did much to make the evening a success.

To this day the Commodore of the year will host a Cocktail Party usually attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Kingston Upon Thames.  Galley Slaves are still in attendance ensuring these events are popular with members and Flag Officers of visiting Thames Yacht Clubs.

So do come and investigate all that LRYC has to offer either as a new boat owner or crew members.
